THE FOLLOWING IS A LOT OF INFORMATION FOR EACH OF YOU DIGEST.   PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND IT ALL.  IF POSSIBLE, PLEASE COMPLETE THE ITEMS THAT REQUIRE ACTION BY YOU BEFORE THIS SATURDAY’S 4/10/21 RIDE.

  1. First, we would like to say WELCOME to the 2020 -2021 Team209 cycle team! It is going to be a bit different from our normal due to Covid, but I promise that we are going to do some riding and we are going to raise lots of money and we are going to have a ton of fun!

  1. As I said in the heading, it is about to be go time.  Stanislaus County is now in the red tier, many people are getting shots, things are opening up a bit.  As of today, anyone over 16 in Stanislaus County can get a shot after April 1.   After much discussion and thought, we at Team 209 have decided that as long as everyone conducts themselves responsibly, we can safely do outdoor bike training soon.   I must be very clear that we will be training as a group of riders out doing a Saturday ride, like we do all the time.  Our training is NOT part of any official TNT training… due to national TNT Covid restrictions on in person training at this time.  So to be clear, we are Fundraising for TNT using our TNT fundraising pages, but we are NOT training as a TNT team.  We are training as group of individuals.  As I said before, we think we can do it here in Stanislaus county safely if we all behave responsibly.  We will have ride groups based on speed and distance and we will have coaches for those groups.

  1. Our first training day will be April 10th, 2021 at the Oakdale Bike shop.   We want any rider that has not trained with me in a prior season to be at OBS by 8:40 so that you and your bike are ready to go at 9am.  Alumni can show up at 9am or at 10:10am to be ready to ride at 10:30am.  At 10:30 we will come together for the first time as full team. The ride will be a 10 mile ride.  Since we are outdoors and behaving responsibly, masks will be optional.

  1. We will not be using Six Cycle this year, so if are getting emails from Sixcycle; ignore them.

  1. At 10:30AM, the whole team will come together for announcements, mission moment etc. We will then do our first ride. This ride is a 2.5 mile loop in Oakdale. We would like you to ride 4 laps if you can.   One objective of this ride is to help determine your current comfortable riding speed. We want you to ride a comfortable pace for you. Do not ride your fastest pace. We are not training to be racers, we are training to be long distance riders. So do not go out a kill it…please. We will have people on the course to help out with directions and coaching.

  1. For any rider that has not trained with me in a prior season, we have some homework for you to do during the week. This will cut down on Saturday training clinic time.   Pease go to our Team 209 website at Team209.org and click on TEAMMATE RESOURCES.  Then click on CYCLING 101, then click on Coach Mel's YouTube Training Videos (or just click the link).  We want you to watch the videos on BIKE RIDING SKILLS… please watch all 7 of them.  Then go to BIKE CHECK AND MAINTENANCE and watch the video on HOW TO DO AN ABC BIKE CHECK

  1. Fundraising.  As of today, this team has raised just over $1.9 million since inception in 2012.  This is counting the money you each raised in 2020.  Our goal is to raise another $100,000 and break $2 million in the next 2 months.  We all need to get busy with that right now.  I sent you an email about fundraising back on Feb 15th.   Here is a link to that email Feb 19 | Team209        The fundraising minimum is $1500 for everyone (the sum of 2020 dollars raised plus 2021 dollars raised).    If we are going to break $2 million, I need everyone raise at least $1500 new dollars in 2021, but that is not required by TNT…   If you have already signed up (committed or not);  you can find your very own 2021 fundraising page by clicking on this link Welcome to Team 209's 2021 Fundraising Page (lls.org)    Then look down the RIGHT hand side of our Team 209 page and clicking on your own name.  That should take you to your 2021 personal TNT fundraising page.  Also, there will be a bunch of fundraising recognition rewards this year.  See the 4th attachment.

  1. We all know that the June 6th Americas Most Beautiful Bike Ride has been cancelled for 2021… so what the heck are we training to do?   Our plan for 2021 is to train using as many new routes as possible for a June 6th ride, celebration and recognition event at THE BARN on Orange Blossom in Oakdale.  TNT will be doing an online celebration of AMBBR 2021 then as well, which we will join in on from the barn.  We will follow that up with a very cool ride in Monterey on June 13th to wrap up part one of the season. Consider all of that as part one of our 2021 season.

  1. Plans for part 2 of the season are still evolving, but we plan to keep training for the September 12th ride around Lake Tahoe (which has NOT yet been cancelled)  Our thought is to keep training every Saturday,  with some sort of fun ride, like a wine ride, a ride along the American River, a Bay Area ride or something every few weeks.  Fundraising for 2021 ends on June 6th.   If you raise money after June 6th it will count toward Tahoe 2022.

You do not have to do either part to do the other part of the season.

  1. Follow our Team209 Cycle team on Facebook at  TEAM209 on Facebook  This page is important for knowing what is happening and for letting the team know what you are doing.

  1. PLEASE RSVP INDICATING YOUR PLANS FOR 2021:

    1. I WILL BE TRAINING

    2. I WILL NOT BE TRAINING, BUT I WILL BE FUNDRAISING

    3. I WILL NOT BE PARTICIPATING THIS SEASON
